Jennifer McMahon will never let you figure out her endings ahead of time. That is one of the mysteries and adventures of her novels. She will throw in so many twists, plots, turns, and dips, leaving you gasping and dumbfounded each and every time. This is what I love about her, and this is what I can't get enough of.
This novel is about a girl named Reggie. We get to see the past and present events of her life. As a young girl, the age of thirteen, there was a serial killer in the neighborhood, targeting young women, cutting off their right hand, and finally, killing them and disposing of their bodies days later. When Reggie's mom went missing, she knew it was just a matter of days. Her mother wasn't the best, and that's why her aunt had to step in and raise her the majority of the time. But when her mothers body never surfaced, everyone just assumed the killer had moved on.
Now, all these years later, Reggie packed up, moved away, and made a decent life for herself. But when a woman resurfaces and they think she is her mother, Reggie gets chills. Going back to her hometown, she knows trouble is about to resurface.
McMahon is one of my favorite authors hands down. She possesses a skill that is rare and unique. I can only hope that she never stops writing and I encourage everyone to pick up a copy of one of her novels, as they are highly addicting.
