Q&A with Janet
Janet, can you tell us what was it about Daughter of Smoke and
Bone that inspired you to create this collection?
The short answer? Because I LOVED the book! Lol The long answer is that it's completely
character driven. I love the characters. In the beginning I wanted to make
jewelry for each character, but in the end I decided to make the jewelry to go
with all the different elements of the book, Resurrection, what a parent would
do for a child, how love conquers all. It was very Dumbledore-ish, it
made me realize that the characters really represented bigger issues and that inspired
the jewelry. Some of it is very literal, like the wishbone, which signifies
what a father would do for their child to keep them from getting hurt. The wishbone is the heart
of the book, it's Karou's coming of age, representing how things get darker in
the book.
What is your favorite piece from the collection and why is it your
favorite?
Actually,
I haven't made my favorite piece yet. It's coming though! It's the
hamsas. I really wanted to include this
piece in the collection, but it’s difficult to make because everyone knows what
the hamsas is supposed to look like. I
want to make it very realistic, and hands are the most difficult to sculpt, to draw,
and to create. I plan to have it completed and added to the collection by
Valentine's Day. I wish I could share it you now!
What piece from the book would you want to add
to the collection that you didn't get to make?
I am working on adding a medallion of Brimstone to the collection.
It was a piece that was requested specifically by Laini Taylor, and we
have discussed since the beginning. It is also set to be completed and added to
the collection before Valentine's Day! Also, Guppies are also coming before
Valentine's day!
Finally, is there any last thoughts or information that you’d like
to leave your fans with?
I’m trying to make a smaller version of the wishbone, possibly as an
earring. I would like to know if this is something that fans would be
interested in. So in the comments below, please tell me if this is something
you’d like to see added to the collection!
