Best Kept Secret
by
Amy Hatvany
By far a very touching and emotional novel. Hatvany will definitely leave you teary eyed, while also putting you through an emotional journey throughout this wonderfully written piece. This story will stay with you for quite some time.
Cadence would do anything for her son Charlie. That's why, when her husband Martin suggested that she quit her job at the newspaper that she so dearly loved because it would be best for their child, she did. No questions asked.
Now, looking back, she does miss those days, yet she loves spending time with Charlie, but Martin is never home, always busy with work. Sometimes he even stays so late that by the time he gets home he just goes straight to bed. When Cadence has asked him to spend less time at work and more time at home with her and Charlie he simply responds with the excuse that he is doing it for them. Working so hard for them.
Cadence has so other choice but to file for divorce. Not having a steady job, only writing for the little side jobs she can find, she tends to work around Charlie. Now, with it just being her and Charlie and going on play dates a few other women suggest drinking a glass of wine to relax at night. Just to mellow out. So she does. Just to get the edge off at night. Then, over time, one glass leads to two, then more.
Eventually, Cadence finds herself explaining to Charlie why mommy needs the wine.
Charlie is the only one who knows that she has a drinking problem.
And Cadence needs help.
Cadence loves her son more than anything.
But she's about to lose him.
