In My Mailbox (38)

What is "In My Mailbox"?In My Mailbox is a weekly meme. What is a meme, you ask. The simple description is  "an idea that spreads quickly." Usually the creator of the meme asks for other people to participate and ultimately link back to the person that started the meme. Memes shouldn't be confused with "features." There are some features that are somewhat exclusive to certain blogs, be courteous and don't steal content.

The idea of In My Mailbox is to bring books to the attention of our blog readers and to encourage interaction with other blogs.  Here's what I got this week, how about you?

I have been so busy this past week! I apologize if I forgot anything. I feel like such a scatterbrain at the moment!

Review: Supernaturally by Kiersten White

Supernaturally
by
Kiersten White

Let me start by saying I love, love, love this series! Kiersten is such a talented writer that I would love to be besties with because the girl knows how to write an amazing bleeping book!
Oooh! So good!

All is well with Evie now since she can live her normal life far away from the IPCA. She is going to school and trying to study hard so she can get into the same college as Lend. How awesome that would be! Evie is living with a friend because it just feels a tad uncomfy without Lend at his dad's house. Even though she wasn't staying there, they still had a tight connection. That's why she didn't think nothing was up when someone came and pulled her out of school only to find... Raquel.

Seriously?! Why, and how did she find her?
This wasn't good. And once Evie found out just what Raquel wanted, it really wasn't good. Apparently since the big showdown at the center, things have been just haywire not only at the center, but everywhere. Raquel needs Evie's help desperately. After discussing it with Lend and hearing how totally against this he was, she decided to do it and just not tell. And just who is to help her? None other than Jack! Ugh.

Over time, all the lying that she's doing to Lend eats at her, and dealing with Jack? Even worse. Especially when Jack just starts making random appearances. Dealing with Jack is horrible but she knows how bad the center needs her help. But why so many bizarre happenings with the paranormals? Who or what is behind it all? Evie wouldn't even have to help and could go back to her normal life if it would all settle down. Yet, that doesn't seem to be happening. Matter of fact, Evie starts to feel like she's the one being targeted. This isn't good at all.

Review: Ashlyn's Radio by Wilson Doherty

Ashlyn's Radio
by
Wilson Doherty

Ashlyn's Radio is made from one part Heather Doherty and the other part Norah Wilson. These two blessedly talented ladies have created a story that is to die for! I don't know how many times I was in the middle of reading and had to stop just to think of how amazing this book was. So scary, it'll give Stephen King nightmares!

Since Ashlyn's mom has been admitted to the psych ward, Ashlyn had no choice but to move back to her mother's hometown. This is the same hometown that her mother was trying to prevent Ashlyn from ever visiting. Ashlyn doesn't know this, just like her mother doesn't know that that's where Ashlyn now resides.

All seems to be well for Ashlyn living in Prescott Junction. She now lives with her grandmother who has lived there for years. There is even a rather hot boy that works for her grandmother and if she plays her cards right, she just might snag him! The only odd thing is that she hears music playing at night. When she questioned her grandmother, she watched her face turn white while she warned Ashlyn to stay in bed at night. When the whistle blows, stay in bed. Everybody does, it's just what all the town people do. And the weird thing? Ashlyn has noticed that her grandmother is right. Not even teens sneak out at night. How odd.

Late one night, Ashlyn finally sneaks out with her friend Rachel as well as the hottie, Caden. Rachel knows all about what goes on while everyone sleeps. The dead bodies that people have found. Rachel knows what really caused it, and now she's going to show them.

Now, Ashlyn realizes just what the whistle belongs to. The ghost train. The train running on the tracks that nobody uses anymore. Those same tracks that have been shut down for years. And once the train approaches, they all watch as the souls inside look at them in despair. The conductor collects them. Lures people out of their beds, only to have others find their lifeless bodies by the tracks the next morning.

What Ashlyn doesn't know, is that the music she hears has a connection to the train. She has far more history in Prescott Junction than she knows, and is about to find out she's in for a world of trouble. She's going to learn why everyone races home once dark.
When that conductor hands you that ticket, don't take it!

My 1st Blogoversary...and what I've learned

Happy Blogoversary to me! I have made it one year!
Huzzah, Holla, and Hurray!

Sitting back and thinking, I just can't believe that it's already been one year! So much has happened. When I first started my blog, I had no clue as to what I was doing and actually started a blog earlier than this date. Not liking it, I decided to create this one instead. Still not knowing what I was doing, it seemed to take me forever to get up and running at least somewhat properly. Yes, I did get discouraged a few times. Still do in fact. I remember winning my first giveaway and not ever receiving it. That really sucked! It made me contemplate if I ever wanted to enter another one. I did of course and have won some awesome books. Now though, I just don't have the time to enter much.

I have reviewed some amazing books this past year and talked with some really cool authors too. I would also like to thank all the authors and publishers who have contacted me for a review. I have completely fallen for some of the books I have read. I would also like to thank all my followers and all those killer cool people I have met along the way that love books just as much as I do! You guys rock!

Review: Between by Jessica Warman

Between
by
Jessica Warman

Such a mysterious read! This one has a surprise towards the end that you'll never see coming. I love that! Full of questions you'll be eager to uncover, you'll find yourself flying through this one!

It's Elizabeth's birthday party, and her father has allowed her, along with her friends to have a party on their boat. All was well. Great in fact, except that nobody managed to stay up until she actually turned another year older. Apparently everyone drank too much and passed out. Liz can't seem to remember a thing that went on. All she does know is that there is a highly obnoxious thumping noise and everyone seems to be sleeping through it. Trying to rouse someone with no efforts, Liz finally goes to see just where the noise is coming from.

That's when she sees her. The dead body floating in the water bumping against the boat. That person in the water? That's Liz. But how? Suddenly, Liz realizes someone is next to her staring along with her at her dead body. That's where it gets all the more interesting. Because that boy, well he died a year ago in a hit and run accident. With Liz questioning him, Alex decides to explain why she can't wake her friends and that it is indeed her in that cold water.

Not sure as to why Alex hasn't passed over yet, he starts to explain to her what it is that he does know, as well as what they can do. Once everyone wakes up, Liz knows it's only a matter of time before they find her body and that she needs to go see her father before he finds out. And once she is discovered, Liz watches to see how everyone reacts. Alex has told her that it's not good to see all her friends and family in mourning but she doesn't care.

As time goes by, Liz watches everyone to see if there are any clues as to just how she died. Alex says it all comes in time. After all, he was killed by a hit and run driver. He doesn't know who hit him either. Only time will tell. What Liz does find out is that apparently things weren't as they seemed. For instance, her best friend and step-sister wasn't such a friend after all. So many questions left unanswered yet, Liz is determined to know the truth.
As they say,
the truth will set you free.
Right?

Review: Touchable Love by Becky Due

Touchable Love
by
Becky Due

Not quite what I was expecting, yet I must say that there was a nice little twist at the end. What I do love about Becky's books is that they are about women struggling to overcome their battles to achieve greatness!

When Christy was first asked to completely change her life in order to document Paul's life while battling the road that he lived with AIDS, she hesitated. She knew this would help her career though so it was for the best. Paul didn't have long to live. She wasn't there to help as an aide, he had made that quite clear to her. Her job was to document and take pictures in his weakest moments. So that's just what she did.
Christy had never let herself get close to anyone before, so when Paul passed, she was shocked and furious at how much he broke her heart for not taking his meds to stay healthier. The only person Christy had to turn to now was Paul's doctor, Brian. Brian was crazy over Christy but she just wouldn't let him in.
The question is:
Will she ever open up as she did with Paul?
Or will it be too late?

My thoughts...on book hoarding.

Just what am I talking about today?
Well, not hoarding per say, because don't get me wrong,
I love to collect books. Even once I have read them, I still have that special connection to them and just can't give them up. I love books tremendously and always have. Many of my older books I don't even keep on my bookshelf because of the simple fact that some are torn and tattered and just don't look pretty. I don't want people coming over and looking at a bookshelf with worn out books. I want my shelf to look pretty with all of my newer books that are in great shape. Maybe I'm crazy here, but I feel like having people see my bookshelves just might encourage people to read. Therefore, I want them to look nicer. I am truly amazed by how many people come over and see all my books and jump into conversations about reading. With that said, collecting is OK. Just not hoarding. Now, on with my point!

What really gets under my skin is when people get books, whether they win them, have them given to them, buy them...however they may receive them, and they have no intention of reading them. Yes, I do have many in my TBR pile. But I'm  going to read them at some point or another. I just feel as though, someone really might want to read those books that are being hoarded. So why not give them up? Books are for reading after all. Maybe some people get greedy. Maybe it's an addiction. I can't really speak for those people. As a book lover it just pains me to know that people not only have books that they are never going to read, but they still continue to collect, and won't give up what is left unopened.  I understand keeping many books. I own many. But if they are never going to be read?! That's not what they are made for. Please pass them along, sell them, give them away if you aren't going to read them. Because somebody might love to read that story.

Review: Deep Blue Secret by Christie Anderson

Deep Blue Secret
by
Christie Anderson

A definite thriller you'll find yourself hooked to! Anderson has created a highly addictive novel full of hotness and surprises.

For Sadie, everything is perfect. Her life is normal and complete. Or at least that's what she thinks.
Out one day with nothing to do, she decides to snap a few pictures out on the beach. All was going quite well until she was standing next to the shore on a huge rock and fell. That's when he appeared. He appeared from nowhere and lifted her as if she were nothing. Once out of the water, Sadie just couldn't take her eyes off of him. After she thanked him, she proceeded with questions about himself. Where did he come from, how did he see her? Who is he??
But he wouldn't tell her anything.

Throughout the next few days, Sadie found herself thinking about him. She just couldn't get him out of her head. And so many questions left unanswered. But the truth is, he knows all about Sadie. More than she knows about herself. For starters, he lives right across the street and has been there watching for years. Sadie thinks that the house is empty.

Finally, when he shows back up, secrets spill and Sadie's life is about to change forever. For good or for worse? That all depends. Bonds are formed, lives are at stake, and Sadie has found herself smack in the middle.
Hold on tight because things are about to get wet!

Review: Triangles by Ellen Hopkins

Triangles
by
Ellen Hopkins

Triangles is nothing shy of marvelous. Ellen Hopkins has created a most wonderful piece looking into the lives of three very different women tied together in some way or another. You'll laugh, you'll cry. You may even connect with them.

As you peek into the lives of three women, each connected together either by friendship or family, you'll find their lives are really quite different, yet each woman struggles with their own battles and hardships of their life. Mainly their husband and the unhappiness or lack of a husband and family life.
Each woman, be it, Marissa, Holly, or Andrea find different ways to try and find ways to make their life content. If you're not happy with something though, are you really just ok with things being content, or do you want to be happy? None of them are happy. And nobody wants to be judged. Especially if you break up your family. So how do you keep your family together and be happy? All three of them struggle with this.
What's a girl to do?
What are all three girls to do?

Review: Borrowing Abby Grace by Kelly Green

Borrowing Abby Grace
by
Kelly Green

As you fall deeply into Borrowing Abby Grace, you'll find yourself hooked and yearning for more. Suspenseful, thrilling, and exciting! You'll find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat.

She awoke to find herself confused, disoriented, and in the back of a van with two complete strangers wearing ski masks. But how did she get there? Kidnapped! Not wanting them to know she was awake, she quietly snuck to the back of the van and opened the door, only to barely get away, as they had realized her intentions and tried desperately to stop her.
She landed in the middle of a beautiful subdivision where everyone was now running towards her to check to see if she was OK. Once the officers from the wailing sirens had checked her out and asked if she belonged to the address in her wallet, she could only shrug and say yes. She had no recollection of who she was or what happened.

When they arrived at the house and the man came outside, running happily towards her, she knew she must be home. But then the question came. Where is Paul? Her brother was kidnapped too. She didn't even know who she was, and couldn't break his heart by telling him this, so she just played along. Looking at the pictures, at the blonde, she realized, that must be her. Except, when she looked into the mirror she seen someone completely different. Someone with black hair, and pale, not tanned skin at all.
Suddenly, someone appeared by her side. Explained to her that she is a shadow. That the body she is in belongs to Abby, and that Abby needs her help. Yet, she only has a short time to do it or she gets stuck inside forever...

Review: Ladybird, Ladybird by Abra Ebner

Ladybird, Ladybird
by
Abra Ebner

Abra has taken words and layed them so gracefully onto the page, you just can't help falling in love with this novella. Dare I say more?
Breathtakingly beautiful, pure and simple.

Samantha lives with her father who resents her. As her mother was giving birth, she died in the process, leaving Samantha's father cold-hearted towards her. Abusive and hateful towards Samantha, she is so strong-willed, she doesn't let it get her down. Maybe it's because she knows her mother loves her so much that she has managed to keep a connection with her beyond the grave. The biggest connection is when the ladybug arrives.

Sam has always been an outcast at school, until the day that Leith has decided to grace her with his friendship. With all the things Sam's dad puts her through, it's nice to be able to have someone to talk to. Yet, Leith has problems of his own. Problems that Sam as oblivious to. And Samantha is the only one who can help.

Review: The Key by Abra Ebner

The Key
by
Abra Ebner

A great prelude leading into the journey of just what Ladybird Ladybird is to become. I hope this will explain so much as I have not yet read Ladybird Ladybird. A fantastic introduction of a sad journey of the lines of women throughout the years of life that they have had to endure. Not by choice, but by fate. When one is born, another shall pass. That is just the way it goes.
