The eager anticipation of this books arrival wasn't what it cracked up to be. I was hoping more of a story line of what happened after the arrival, not the journey leading up to. All in all, it was an OK read, just wasn't quite what I was expecting.

For Nina, things apparently used to be rather pleasant, being a tier 5 and all, but now, now she's a tier 3. The higher the count, the better the rank in life, the lower, well, that pretty much means your a nobody. And once a girl turns 16, well, you get a not so pretty tattoo labeling you for everyone to see, so they know. They fill your head with lies. Good things happen when you turn sixteen! Yes! You get to leave your family and go with the government to who knows what exactly because nobody seems to come back but they tell you its wonderful!!!
Lies!
The only way out? There is a contract that can be bought for you so that you don't have to go. That's just what Nina's mom did. Thing is, Nina's mom was murdered and now her contract is missing.

What is YOUR all time favorite childhood book?

I want to know what your all time favorite childhood book is! Feel free to share your story behind it! That's what makes it so special. The connection to it.
Here's my story.

I remember the day when my dad brought it home. The company he worked for was relocating and the building was going to be taken over by Harcourt Brace. He was one that was asked to relocate but decided not to go because that would mean we would have to move out of state. Anyway, the new company gave all the old employees a children's book to take to their family. The day he brought it home and gave it to me I was ecstatic! This was my first ever real book! This was my first book that was a hardcover and had a jacket flap! Not only that, but I loved the story, and I loved the colors. The book:
My mom told me we had to keep this one on the bookshelf because it was special. I could read it whenever I wanted, I just had to ask. When my parents got divorced, my mom kept it, still on her bookshelf, and when I went to live with my grandma she still wanted to keep it. Over the years, she moved many times and I seen my precious book get worn and torn at the edges. I even took it a few times, only for my mom to take it back. The last time I seen it on her bookshelf it was missing that jacket flap I was so proud of. I have now bought my own copy for my children, but I haven't been able to find one with a jacket flap. But enough with my story, I want to hear yours! Please do share!

Review: Hex, A Witch and Angel Tale

Hex, A Witch and Angel Tale
by
Ramona Wray

Aah, to fall in love with a book within the prologue? Not an easy thing. I didn't fall, I got captured. Hex has something some of these other YA books seem to be missing. Something I couldn't quite put my finger on. Knowledge. Not something you can learn from college. Life. That's it! Hex has knowledge and Hex has life. There's so many people wanting to run out and write a book to say that they are published. This is what they are missing. Ramona doesn't just have a gift for writing, there's something deeper there. I don't know what it is but it's brilliant! I can't wait to see what she gives us next!

To tell you that Lily was just an ordinary teenager is simply out of the question. She can't have a boyfriend because anyone that she touches, well, lets just say she finds out way too much information on them, and then ends up passing out. Guess you gotta take the good with the bad. Her best friend is Jane. She goes by J. They are as close as can be. They know everything about each other.

Out of nowhere, Ryder Kingscott, who has never bothered to talk to Lily before, has now confronted her, and wants to take her out. Seriously? He doesn't just want to go to prom, he wants to date also. This just doesn't make sense. She tells him it sounds confusing, he tells her he'll be waiting.

Weeks go by. All she can think about is Ryder. How cute he is. How she wants to go tell him she's ready, but he never talked with her before and suddenly wanted to jump into a relationship? He knew the name of her cat? How? Stalker? She wanted him! Finally she was ready. Enough of this! A couple days after the 'official' couple news had spread the school, Ryder asked Lily to touch him. Something in her thought he must be crazy, but something in her also thought he knew what he was doing. When the touched, nothing happened! This was amazing!

Now, at school, in walks a new guy, Lucian Bell. When Lily turns to Ryder she sees his eyes blaring. Lucian wants to sit next to Lily but Ryder isn't having it. Lily wants to learn more about him and Ryder seems to know all the deets but won't share. Once Lucian finally gets Lily alone he tells her that Ryder isn't who she thinks he is. There was a hex put on her and Ryder was sent here for a purpose. He doesn't love her. He's going to hurt her.
This can't be! What's going on?!

Review: Unearthly

Unearthly
by
Cynthia Hand

This was one that was well worth the wait. A very different storyline Cynthia has created for us to fall in love with and she has done it well! The beginning was a little iffy per say but I think that's just because it's because it is different. It came together beautifully.

Clara has her purpose just like they all do. They? The angels. Clara isn't full blooded though. Clara's purpose comes in visions, over time. She pieces these visions together. Time and time again this same guy keeps showing up. But where? And finally, the trees, pine trees, she tells her mother. And she can see the guys license plate in her vision. It's time to go where the vision has revealed.

Christian is his name, and as soon as she sees him she is drawn to him. And with all new schools that means new friends. Wendy and Angela become the closest to Clara. Wendy seems to have this really annoying brother named Tucker that just clashes with Clara. Over time, the best of the best happens, and Christian and Clara start dating! Sadly though, he has to leave for the summer, and so does Wendy, and Angela, leaving only Tucker. Wendy knows that Clara is bummed because everybody is gone so she sends Tucker over to entertain her. Thing is, he seems to return every day. This is the guy who always teased and aggravated Clara. Now, he's coming and taking her to do different adventures every day? Hmm? She's supposed to be working on figuring out her purpose with Christian. All that she does know is that it has to do with fire. Playing instead of focusing. Tsk, tsk.

It's almost time. Will Clara do what she's supposed to do? She's more worried about knowing if she'll know what to do than actually doing the right thing. Will she make the right choice in time?

Review: Nevermore

Nevermore
by
Kelly Creagh

I fell in bliss with the words of Nevermore by Kelly Creagh. What talent she has! This girl has an amazing gift for writing that seems different than many others. I really enjoyed that. And to put Poe in the mix ha HA! Talent I tell you!

Isobel has everything. She's majorly popular at school too. A hot jock boyfriend. Sounds lovely!
How killer that a school project gets her stuck with Varen, the Goth, loner boy that she doesn't want to associate with. Isobel makes the best of it though. Over time, she starts to find him quite interesting, very intelligent, attractive in a unique way, and quite mysterious. She yearns to know more about him. Sadly others don't feel this way. She loses her jock boyfriend and  her popular friends.

Varen finally opens up some to Isobel but it could've been the wrong thing to let happen. Now strange things start to happen. Eerie, creepy things. Little by little, over time, these things get worse.  Things you couldn't even dream about.

Review: Being Dead

Being Dead
by
Vivian Vande Velde

A chilling book of seven short stories, each a little different. The cover is enough to give you nightmares. I'm not a fan of short stories, I am a series girl, but for some reason I picked this one up and so glad I did!

  1. Drop by Drop  is a 60 page tale of a young girl and her family moving to the country. Once arriving only Brenda seems to be having visits from something beyond this world. Once she realizes just what, or should I say who it is it'll leave you stunned.
  2. Dancing With Marjorie's Ghost  is an eerie story consisting of nine pages. Let's just say husbands will learn from Conrad Sharpe. Treat your wives well!
  3. Shadow Brother this one is 40 pages long. Guilty conscience? Guilt comes back to haunt in this ghost story.
  4. The Ghost 8 pages. Would you haunt where you died?
  5. For Love of Him Ah! The anniversary of a death means the dead get more powerful! This was a good one! 18 chilling pages. They can suck you in...
  6. October Chill 40 pages long. Emily is dying. John shows up, possibly sensing the weakness? The loss of life? As they grow on each other, in the end, John helps Emily like no other can.
  7. Being Dead Johnny's day was going great until he got killed. Now, he lays dead and is being robbed. He can't allow that to happen. That's for his mother. He must get even! This story is 28 pages.
4/5 stars. 203 pages. Published by Harcourt 2003. First edition published 2001. Purchased at Turning Pages Bookstore.

Review: Dirty Little Angels

Dirty Little Angels
by
Chris Tusa

This is one that is not for sheltered people. Yes, people live this way, and no, it is not an easy life. But if that's all you know, then I guess you really don't know any better. I'm sure many will give this book a turned head because of the rough, raw culture of it. This is real. This is life for some people.

Life behind the eyes of sixteen year old Hailey sure isn't easy. Not even close. With a mother who mourns for a baby that she lost at only nine weeks of pregnancy, and a father who spends all his time in between the bar and gambling his money away, the only family member she really has to turn to is her brother Cyrus, and Cyrus has his own issues.

Hailey's friend Meridian is the one she seems to look up to, and yet despises at the same time. What with the fake implants, botox injections, and giving it out to anybody, who wouldn't choose Meridian over Hailey?

Hailey helps her brother as well as a guy named Moses. The plan is to open up a drive-thru church. Seeing as they live in the slums, they steal most everything they need. In between Meridian, Cyrus, and Moses, Hailey gets herself caught up in a world of trouble she doesn't see coming. Family comes first though right?

Review: The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove

The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove
by
Lauren Kate

A phenomenal writer I think many of us know that Lauren Kate is! This one has a very superb storyline. I had difficulty with the characters though. I just couldn't bond with them. I was really hoping to fall head over heels for this one and it just didn't happen. It's still a great read, I just thought I would get more out of it.

Natalie wants what every girl wants at her school. Whats that? To be Palmetto Princess of course! Everyone starts preparing far in advance for this every year. This is what those Southern Belles live for! Natalie knows she can snag her spot, the only problem is, her boyfriend Mike doesn't try like all the other guys. It's just not as important to him. Natalie can't get her spot if Mike doesn't get his! Justin Balmer is currently running neck and neck with Mike and that just don't fly with Natalie.

So there's this huge mega party right?! And guess who gets totally plastered? Ha! Justin! So what would be a better scenario then to let him know who's running the show and pull a naughty little prank on him! So that's just what Natalie and Mike do, only something is about to go wrong. Horribly wrong.

Y all the red-heads?

Is it just me, or have all the redheads on covers nowadays caught your eye too? The saying goes that redheads are meaner, so does that make for a better character, a better fighter, battling the bad guys? At one time, redheads were believed to be vampires with their fair skin just adding to that belief.

Yet, redheads have also been known in previous years to be witches. Seems most people frown on the idea of red hair, but in the book industry it sure seems to be rather popular. Just a coincidence or is it to help intensify the character? Hmm... What's your opinion on this one? You know that saying that redheads are meaner? I definitely believe that one, as I have a little redhead myself!
This is my little one!
